The long weekend has come and gone.

We had a lazy, stay-at-home sort of weekend with the family. It was nice to spend so much time together. We did chores both inside and out and got a lot done working as a team. Magoo and I moved sticks to the front yard for collection and Daddy mowed the yard. I cleaned much of the house, did many loads of laundry, simmered some marinara sauce, and baked two kinds of cookies. Daddy fave Magoo's room a mini-makeover with a new light fixture, curtain pull backs, and a full length mirror for her gazing pleasure. On Sunday we had breakfast and coffee at the usual places and on Monday, Labor Day, we had the folks over for dinner. Junior had a hard time sleeping this weekend. She's getting teeth and trying to figure out walking. I guess that will keep a girl (and her Momma) up all night. I'm glad to say she seems to have gotten over that for now.

Today was back to work and back to school for us. Daddy left before the sun came up and the girls managed to sleep through his departure. We girls got up at 6am to start out daily routine. All were fed, brushed, dressed and out the door by 7:30 to get Magoo to school on time. Junior and I dropped Magoo off with a hug and a good-bye and went on our way. We spent some quality time with her in the sling at Target before stopping for a coffee on the way to playgroup. At playgroup this morning we got a home canning tutorial. I have always been nervous about canning but it actually looked pretty easy. I can't wait to try. Anyway, I drove to the park to wait for school to let up. Junior napped and I watched the waives on the river. We picked up Magoo who was happy to see us and tell us about her day and we drove home for lunch, nap and some granola making. When Junior woke from her afternoon snooze we played outside. The sun even came out for us. The girls got grubby in the garden so we went in for a bath and sure enough Magoo was ready for bed before supper again. School is really wearing her out.

Cut to me on the computer at 9:30 when I should be getting ready for another day. I'm tired, Junior fell off the couch tonight, and Magoo has been talking in her sleep for the past hour. I hope tonight is restful and tomorrow is joyful. This Mom Loves finding our rhythm as a family. It takes some time to work out the kinks but I think we'll get there in a few dozen years.

perfect weather for outdoor play

Reaching out

We don't quite have this much color in our part of Wisconsin yet but we did collect leaves out at the Hugelheim Paul E. Stry Preserve this morning. Our playgroup met out there for a First Friday Out. We showed up late because we were waiting for Jr. to wake from her morning snooze but we did get there in time to go on a hike with everyone, hunt for dinosaurs, and have a snack and story.

We were invited out to a new friend's house for a playdate this afternoon. Magoo and C played hard while Jr and little R crawled and toddled about. They even got a taste of birthday cake before we headed home. Unfortunately we forgot Magoo's new pink sweatshirt there because we were in a rush to get home for dinner.

When we got home tonight, Daddy had dinner made. He'd been working on a pot of chili made with the peppers we got in out CSA box. I wish he'd added some of the tomatoes too but it was still very good. Even little Jr. loved it. I'm on deck to make cookies, but I think I'm saving that for tomorrow. The cool day will lend itself to some baking. This Mom Loves this weather. It's perfect for playing outdoors, making a pot of soup, leaving the windows open for natural air conditioning, and baking yummy treats.

I'm so excited that the Autumn edition of Rhythm of the Home is out today. I always look forward to the seasonal publication because of its good recipes, fun projects to do with my girls, and the sense of belonging that I feel when I read about like-minded families. Fall is my favorite season for many reasons. I love the colors, the weather, the excitement of back to school, raking leaves, Halloween, apples, pumpkin pie...I'm sure I could go on. In this edition there is a tutorial on felting soap that I'd like to try and pumpkin bread for the first day of fall sounds like a wonderful tradition. Check out the Autumn edtion and you'll see why This Mom Loves Rhythm of the Home.
